2012-2013 Season Preview: USC

The 2012-2013 season opens for USC basketball with a game against Coppin State on November 9 in Los Angeles. The Trojans will put a team on the floor that hopes to match the performance of last year's squad. They must offset a loss of 47% of last season's player minutes with the contributions of four incoming freshmen.

The USC offense will suffer from a 75.5% drop in three-point shooting, the largest gap that the team will need to fill. After that comes assists, where they drop another big 61.6%.

USC finished with an overall record of 6-25 last season, landing in the cellar of the Pac 12 with their 1-17 conference record. The Trojans would go on to lose to UCLA 55-40 in the Pac 12 tournament. USC lost last year's senior Eric Strangis (12 minutes per game). The Trojans will also miss Maurice Jones (38 MPG), Alexis Moore (24 MPG), Garrett Jackson (22 MPG), Evan Smith (11 MPG), and Danilo Dragovic (1 MPG), who left the team.

The Trojans retain sophomore Byron Wesley (1.8 assists/game), senior Aaron Fuller (10.6 points/game), junior Dewayne Dedmon (7.6 points/game), senior Greg Allen (4.7 points/game), and senior James Blasczyk (3.2 points/game).

Incoming freshmen include 6-9 Zach Banner, 5-9 Chass Bryan, 6-2 Brendyn Taylor, and 6-9 Strahinja Gavrilovic. Other players joining the team include 6-0 senior Jio Fontan, 6-7 junior Ari Stewart (transferred from Wake Forest), 6-6 senior Eric Wise (transferred from UC Irvine), 6-9 senior Renaldo Woolridge (transferred from Tennessee), 6-3 junior JT Terrell (transferred from Wake Forest), and 7-2 junior Omar Oraby (transferred from Rice).

The Trojans will look forward to five games against AP preseason Top 25 teams, including #20 San Diego State on November 25th, at #12 Arizona on January 26th, and at #13 UCLA on January 30th. USC will begin Pac 12 play on January 3rd against Stanford.
